Leather stretches and molds to fit the natural curves of the body while retaining its original shape, thereby allowing you to sink into luxury and cozy comfort but with full support and rest. Also leather softens and becomes suppler over use which just adds to its value, look and feel, making it a prized possession over time. Another great benefit of leather is that it is very low on maintenance, making it a very value-for-money buy over time. Unlike fabric sofas, leather sofas do not need costly dry cleaning and steam cleaning. To remove dust, all that you need to do is regularly wipe it with a clean, white damp cloth or a gentle brush to make it look as good as new. However, before using a damp cloth, conduct a patch test in an inconspicuous area to make sure that the leather doesn't absorb water. Use only a dry cloth otherwise.
Leather is graded by the natural look it has, whether it contains many spots or blemishes, or if it is a virtually spot free piece which will make it even more desirable. Most leather sofas will have a few natural occurring blemishes but that's part of the beauty of it. When you shop for a new leather sofa you will need to know what to look for as far as quality and price. You will want to purchase a top grain leather which is the part used from the outer surface of the hide. Although still a good product, leather taken from inner surfaces is called split grain leather and may prove to be somewhat weaker.
I'm sure that it doesn't take much convincing to realize that the quality of a leather sofa is going to be far superior to that of a fabric covered sofa. Almost any leather covered sofa is going to be more durable and longer lasting than its fabric covered counterpart but there are differences in the quality of the leather that is on the market today. Top grain leather is the highest quality leather that you can find. It has been subjected to the least amount of conditioning and that Helps to preserve its natural oils and gives it the grain and feel that one would expect from true leather. Split leather is taken from below the top layer of the hide. This type of leather is subjected to high levels of treatment in order to produce an Even smooth feel and look to the leather. It is still a good product but it is not as durable or natural as top grain leather.
